Chapter 14

By the end of the animated movie, Lindy was snuggled against her Daddy’s chest snoring sweetly. She’d had such an eventful few days, Josiah knew his Little girl would need additional sleep to recover. He held her close to his body. She lay against him with absolute trust.

He couldn’t believe they had just met such a short amount of time ago. She had woven her way into his heart. Josiah’s world had already changed to focus on her. She was his Little girl. He would never let her go.

Moving slowly, he gathered her body on his lap and stood with Lindy in his arms. She grumbled slightly as she wiggled into a more comfortable position. Josiah smiled as he began to walk down the hallway. He paused at the entrance to her nursery. Shaking his head, Josiah realized he was not willing to have her away from him. He needed to make sure she was safe. She could sleep in her crib later.

Walking into the master bedroom, he entered the huge attached master bathroom. He turned the dimmer switch to illuminate the bathroom with the dim light. Talking to her softly, he woke her, so she could sit on the countertop. He set her bottom on the granite vanity before opening a drawer to find a new toothbrush. Quickly unwrapping it and dabbing on a bit toothpaste, Josiah set it aside as he tried to wake her up a bit more. He rubbed her back until her eyes opened sleepily. When her eyes were focused on him, he held the toothbrush up to her view.

“Let’s brush your teeth before bed, princess. Open your mouth.” He lifted the toothbrush away as she reached for it. “Let Daddy take care of you, Lindy. Open your mouth.” Obediently, she opened her mouth and allowed him to brush her teeth. At first, she was very self-conscious about having someone brush her teeth. After he showed her that he would be gentle, her eyes drifted back closed. When he finished, he used a paper cup to give her a drink. Helping her lean over to rinse out her mouth, he encouraged her to rinse the toothpaste out.

“Thanks, Daddy,” she mumbled as he lifted her back into his arms.

Josiah cradled her gently as he carried her back into the bedroom. He shifted to cradle her in one arm. Josiah pulled back the rich brown comforter to reveal the deep gold sheets. Folding back the top sheet, he laid Lindy in bed, covering her carefully, and smiled as she snuggled into her pillow. He had turned to go take a shower and brush his own teeth when he heard her rustling around slightly, calling, “Coco?”

“I know where she is hiding. I’ll be right back,” Josiah promised. He jogged back down the hall to the kitchen table and found Coco propped up in the chair. He picked up the stuffie to take it back to Lindy. “Coco, a Little girl needs you to sleep soundly.” He chuckled at himself.
